# Fiscal year settings

> Where fiscal years are listed, what Open, Locked and Closed mean, and where to change the year start.

**Settings → Fiscal Years** lists each fiscal year with its period, net income and status, and the **Lock**, **Unlock**, **Preview & Close** and **Reopen** actions.

- The **start month** is set in **Settings → Business Profile → Financial year starts in**; years are created automatically from it.
- **Open** — postings allowed. **Locked** — postings blocked. **Closed** — net income swept to retained earnings; reopen to change.
